  Singapore I love assignments when there are so many good things to pick from. The beauty of Singapore doesn’t disappoint. Singapore is on my bucket list of places to go see. I think after seeing some of what they have to offer, it will be on yours also.   Singapore is a tropical island in Southeast Asia, off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore is a city, a nation and a state.  The temperature in Singapore ranges between 73 to 90 degrees which makes it great for plant life. However, water stress is projected by 2040.  Healthcare is 6th in the world, 30,000 Americans live in Singapore, free trade between the US and Singapore have created 215,000 American jobs, 20 billion in trade and 4,200 American businesses are in Singapore. Up until 2021 Singapore was still considered a developing nation but has since joined us in being considered a 1st world country. I think what makes Singapore different from Europe or America is that they were developing in the twentieth c

Mid Modern Vietnam

  Mid Modern- The Vietnam War      I picked all artists that were part of the Vietnam Combat Artists Program with the Army during Vietnam.  Soldiers/artists that were part of this program were given orders to use their orders to join troop units and create works of art that they saw. These artists were also given time at a base in Hawaii to finish their work or start creating their work.  All of these pieces are directly related to my theme of the Vietnam war.  They all depict military and civilian life in Vietnam during the war. I would put these paintings in a war museum, college and even copies of them in military members' homes and work offices. I feel grief when I see these pieces.  To us, it is just an American war.  To the people that lived it, it was fear, pain, anger and grief that many never got over.  I hope we learned something from it.  Title: Last Stand Artist: Phillip W. Early Modern

       All three of my paintings are directly related to the influence of WW1.  The first painting with all of the flags was a direct influence of WWI to the artist who was very patriotic and painted what was going on at the time.  The paintings Great War and Over the Top were painted by war artists.  They were commissioned to paint the war.  Due to all three paintings being obviously influenced by the war, I tried to think about what the artists were feeling about the war when they painted their works.  I think in Hassam’s, Early Morning On The Avenue In May the artist was feeling support and pride. Great War by Nevinson is very stoic and serious.  I believe he was feeling fear and trepidation about the war.  Over the Top by John Nash is so desperate.  I think what he was trying to show the world with this work was the reality of war being devastating and tragic.   Title: Early Morning On The Avenue In May Artist: Frederick Childe Hassam  Year painted: 1917 Oil on canvas  Place painte
